The railway line between Banbury, Bicester and Leamington Spa reopened today after Network Rail completed a £76m upgrade to track and signalling on the Chiltern main line.

Network Rail is inviting residents in the Wirral to an information event to find out more about upcoming work to manage vegetation near the railway to keep rail passengers and staff safe.

Local politicians visited Liverpool Central station yesterday (4 August) to take a rare look at the tunnels beneath the city, revealing the seldom-seen passages used by trains every day and the challenges involved in maintaining a safe and modern railway for passengers.

Network Rail’s £76m upgrade to track and signalling on the Chiltern main line, which will help with reliability and punctuality between the West Midlands and London, is progressing on schedule as the nine-day closure of the line reaches the mid-point.

Rail engineers are about to undertake the painstaking restoration of Stephenson’s historic bridge in Salford as work on the Ordsall Chord takes another step forward.

With the summer holidays about to start, Network Rail visited a Worcestershire school to advise children of the need to always use level crossings correctly and the dangers of trespassing on the railway.

• A replacement bus service will operate between Leamington Spa, Banbury and Bicester
• Investment to help improve reliability and punctuality of trains through the Banbury area
• Journeys through the Oxford area also affected by upgrade work at Hinksey between Saturday 30 July and Sunday 14 August
