The railway between London and Scotland via the West Midlands and north west has reopened after a number of upgrade projects over Easter were successfully completed on time.

Alarming new figures from Network Rail and British Transport Police reveal more people than ever are risking their lives on the rail network by trespassing on the tracks in the north west .

• £70m investment part of Britain’s Railway Upgrade Plan, including work in Manchester, Watford and between Preston and Carlisle
• More than 95 percent of the network will be running as normal over Easter
• There will be changes to some services while Network Rail carries out the work
• The investment will provide faster and more frequent services to help relieve over-crowding on Britain's railways

Rail passengers travelling in and out of Manchester Victoria are being reminded some services will change, starting from this Easter, as work continues on the Ordsall Chord.

Residents living near to the railway in the villages of Brandon, Wolston, Church Lawford and Long Lawford are this week invited to attend local drop-in sessions to find out more about upcoming vegetation work in the area.

A railway site in Sandwell has been identified to build a new factory that will supply sleepers to the rail network across Britain for years to come.

Network Rail has today (Tuesday 4 April) thanked neighbours and passengers for their patience after railway upgrade work was completed through Poulton-le-Fylde over recent weekends.

Penn Road footpath level crossing in Aylesbury has been closed, helping to make the railway in the town safer for local people.
