Network Rail is to transform Britain’s busiest station into a multimedia art gallery this December, as London Waterloo plays host to the Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards exhibition.

Network Rail has today welcomed the second report by Sir David Higgins on the future of high speed rail in Britain, which reinforces the strategic case for creating additional capacity on the rail network and improving connectivity across the North and the Midlands, as well as the north-south links to London.

An updated app now allows residents and businesses to track the progress of roadworks across the country and better plan their journey, including upgrades being carried out by Network Rail. This is thanks to a renewed contract being announced this month between ELGIN, the developers of roadworks.org and Network Rail, which is now providing ELGIN with details of its maintenance and improvement work to help enhance the app.

Network Rail has announced a new managing director, network operations to take over from Robin Gisby who has decided to leave next year. Phil Hufton, currently chief operating officer of London Underground, will be joining in early 2015 and will have an orderly handover from Robin.

Figures released today by Network Rail have revealed more evidence of the changing face of modern retail with in-station retail spend once again outperforming the high street average, and growing for the ninth quarter in a row.

Network Rail has awarded 20 framework agreements with a combined value of £1.6bn to a total of nine suppliers. The frameworks cover an extensive programme of enhancements and renewals to the London North Western and East Midlands routes over the next five years.
