Network Rail has carried out improvement work on Skerne Bridge, the oldest railway bridge in the world in continuous use, before its 195^th anniversary this weekend.

The East Coast Main Line Power Supply Upgrade is to power forward into its second phase to enhance the East Coast network, bolstered by a £216.2m contract award for the Rail Electrification Alliance.

Network Rail is working in partnership with Darlington Borough Council to brighten up three historic railway bridges in the town, as part of a £60,000 project.

Dates for key works on the £1.2 billion East Coast Upgrade have now been confirmed, with a programme aimed at delivering improvements for passengers as soon as possible, Network Rail said today (3 September 2020).

Network Rail and train operators on the East Coast Main Line are urging passengers not to travel to London King’s Cross on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September 2020, while vital work takes place in and around the station as part of the East Coast Upgrade, which will improve journeys for passengers. 

Network Rail is advising motorists in Grantham that Barrowby Road will close next month, as major work begins on a £2.7million project to improve two railway bridges in the town.

A team of volunteers from Network Rail have joined forces with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Local Resilience Forum (LRF) PPE hub to help deliver vital PPE to care homes, GP surgeries and hospices across the county.
