British Transport Police and the ScotRail Alliance are today issuing a warning to youngsters throughout Scotland – trespassing on the railway can be lethal.

Residents living near Liverpool South Parkway are invited to a drop-in event on Tuesday 11 July to find out more about work to renew two local railway bridges.

The views of residents, businesses and passengers are being sought over the next two weeks on plans to continue the transformation of cross country rail services in Britain.

• Trespassing on the railways is at an all-time high with over 8,000 incidents recorded in 2016
• In the past ten years 170 people have been killed on rail tracks almost half of them aged under 25
• Partnership with The Scout Association will focus on educating Cubs on the dangers of playing alongside railways as part of their Personal Safety Badge

Residents living in Oxford are invited to find out more about a crucial upgrade through the city which will see a section of the railway closed for nine days as progress is made towards improving line speed in and out of Oxford.

Passengers using Ashton-under-Lyne station are reminded that it will be closed between Saturday 8 and Sunday 31 July while engineering work takes place to provide better journeys between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge.
