Network Rail is inviting residents to find out more about improvements to Hebden Bridge railway station as part of the Great North Rail Project.

Network Rail has today announced plans to tackle three significant environmental issues in the country’s biggest and busiest rail stations.

• Ban retailers from supplying plastic cutlery and cups in managed stations by the end of 2020
• Implement a coffee cup recycling scheme for managed stations by the end of 2020
• Expand the roll out of coffee ground recycling to all managed stations by the end of 2020

Engineers have completed work on the £1 million programme of refurbishment on the Ayr Viaduct to coincide with the 140^th anniversary of the current bridge’s construction in 1878.

Engineers are undertaking urgent repair work on a rail bridge in the Manea area between Ely and Peterborough. An area of deterioration was found on the rail bridge structure during a regular inspection. To protect the safety of those using the 170 rail services that cross the bridge daily , we, in cooperation with our train operator partners, decided not to run  services today between Ely and Peterborough.

Repairs have been progressing throughout the day and we expect the line to reopen for weekend services early Saturday morning.

Train customers are reminded to plan ahead so they can stay on the move during a major transformation of Liverpool Lime Street station.

Engineers are undertaking urgent repair work on a rail bridge in the Manea area to restore services as quickly as possible between Ely and Peterborough. Late last night, Network Rail, identified a fault following a regular survey of the bridge structure and in cooperation with our train operating partners, decided not to run passenger services between Ely and Peterborough to maintain the safety of passengers. This has allowed our engineers to carry out the urgent repair work which is expected to continue at least until the end of today. Engineers hope to be able to repair the fault in time for the weekend but further updates will be provided as work progresses.

Network Rail, Go-via Thameslink Railway (GTR) and Northern today apologised to all passengers affected by recent disruption, and set out how the organisations are going to improve the service for customers as quickly as possible.

After a busy weekend of rail upgrades across the South East, all lines reopened yesterday morning ready for the rush hour.
