For the first time, members of the public will be able to see detailed plans by George Stephenson - known as the father of the railways - for the world’s first passenger railway to use locomotives.

Network Rail is preparing its 61-strong fleet of Railhead Treatment Trains (RHTT) and Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPV) to minimise the impact of leaves on the line this autumn, ahead of the beginning of leaf fall season on Monday 1 October.

Work is now underway on a 12-month programme at Aberdeen station to deliver a £9m investment to upgrade and replace the glass roof.

• Passengers have saved equivalent of 150,000 plastic water bottles from landfill since introduction of free drinking water at stations

• Drinking water facilities are currently located in nine Network Rail stations, with plans to roll-out the initiative to a further 11 stations by the end of the year

• Announcement coincides with National Refill Day on 27 September, an initiative by City to Sea which seeks to reduce plastic pollution by encouraging people to refill their bottles

A multi-million pound project to make Carshalton station accessible to all begins next month with the installation of new lifts.

Work has started on the creation of two new entrances at Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station to allow for faster and easier access into and out of the station, with the equipment now in place and ready for extensive testing to take place throughout the autumn.

Network Rail is inviting residents to find out more about upgrades which will improve accessibility at Scunthorpe railway station as part of the Great North Rail Project and Access for All Programme. 

Passengers are being urged to check before travelling between Newport and Shrewsbury as Network Rail Wales and Borders will be delivering improvements to track and signalling equipment in the Craven Arms area over the next four weekends.
