Work has begun to carefully restore an historic railway footbridge for passengers at New Mills Newtown station in the Derbyshire Peak District.

Network Rail will begin major work to improve Hebden Bridge railway station next week in a £500,000 investment.

Important rail upgrades and maintenance work will be carried out on the main line between Ipswich and Chelmsford on Sunday 9 February which will improve reliability of rail services in the region.

Network Rail is inviting people in North Ferriby to find out more about an £8million project to protect the railway embankment, which carries the Hull to Selby line, from further erosion. The work will mean services can continue running safely and reliably for years to come.

The first direct rail link in more than 50 years between Oxford, Bedford, Milton Keynes and Aylesbury has been given the green light for further work.

Nitshill Road, south of Glasgow, will close overnight on eight consecutive Saturdays while Network Rail engineers carry out work to repair and strengthen the railway bridge over the A726.

Network Rail is urging passengers in the Calder Valley to check before travelling as there will be nine days of changes to services to allow vital canal bridge repairs to take place later this month.
