To mark International Women in Engineering Day (Tuesday 23^rd June), Network Rail is promoting the contributions of women in engineering as new research has highlighted a lack of female role models within Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) sectors.

Work is about to begin on a new staff accommodation block at Ayr station in the first phase of a programme that will unlock significant improvements for passengers and the operation of the station.

Network Rail has announced that passenger services between Scunthorpe and Doncaster will resume tomorrow after repair work following a landslip has completed earlier than planned.

• Nine days of major engineering work, which started on 13 June, completed on time
• Passengers will benefit from a more reliable railway with 400 metres of new track laid at Gillingham
• New roof and improvements at Sherborne station, ahead of new cycle racks due to be installed shortly
• Templecombe station given a facelift with new paintwork
• Speed restriction removed in the Templecombe area where there was a landslip in 2019

Network Rail has identified the preferred location of the proposed new railway station for Cambridge South. The chosen location corresponds with Option 1 presented to the public earlier this year and follows a review of engineering and design information together with the results of public consultation.

Passengers in Sussex will feel the benefits of a major renewal and refurbishment to Oxted Viaduct and a footbridge replacement in Eridge, a village on the Uckfield branch of the Oxted line.

An overhaul of the overhead power lines outside Euston station which will mean more reliable journeys for passengers was completed by Network Rail today (19 June).

A helicopter has been used to repair a historic Victorian railway tunnel that takes passenger trains between Clitheroe and Manchester through a hillside in Darwen, Lancashire.
