Network Rail is to reopen the level crossing in Barns Green on Thursday this week, following the tragic incident last month.

Rail passenger services have returned to the Felixstowe branch line today (Monday 19 March) ahead of schedule, following repairs at a level crossing where a car was hit by a freight train.

The weekend of 24-25 March marks a milestone in the £50m North Wales railway upgrade project, when a state of the art signalling system between Shotton and Colwyn Bay will come into use for the first time.

Passengers in Kent can look forward to more reliable train services to and through London as Network Rail today confirmed a major programme of work to upgrade the Sevenoaks tunnel and the railway which runs through it.

The Felixstowe branch line will remain closed to passenger services until early next week, following a collision between a car and freight train that also damaged the signalling equipment and level crossing.

Repair work is under way following a landslip that caused extensive damage to the railway line between Clacton on Sea and Colchester. The line is expected to be closed for at least the next two days while the work takes place.

Some train services will run in and out of Lime Street station for over four weeks of this summer’s upgrade works, being carried out between 2 June and 29 July, as every effort is made to keep passengers moving while the station is transformed.
