Network Rail Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship: You’re Hired!

Network Rail is recruiting for future rail leaders through its apprenticeship scheme. Applications are now open for a March 2020 start and will close when all places have been filled.
The three-year scheme is open to anyone aged 18 or over on or before 29 March 2020 with no upper age limit.
Network Rail apprenticeships combine on the job training with classroom-based learning. Candidates will ‘earn as they learn’, supported by experienced colleagues and learning skills that can support a wide variety of careers in the rail industry.
For many, it’s the beginning of an exciting career journey and apprenticeships can lead to opportunities to study for further qualifications and gain a chartered membership of a professional engineering institute.
Bill Kelly, Network Rail’s route director for Wales and Borders, said:
“The 1,700 people working for Network Rail in Wales and Borders are our greatest asset and play a vital role in delivering a safe and reliable railway for passengers. Our apprentices play crucial role: ensuring we have the right skillsets in place and future-proofing our railways for many years to come.
“I would urge anyone that has the ambition and enthusiasm to make a difference every single day and contribute to building a railway for the future, to consider applying for our apprenticeship scheme.”
Ben Gough, former apprentice for Network Rail’s Wales and Borders route, added:
“I applied for the scheme because I believed it would be a fantastic opportunity to be involved in an industry that is quite different, very interesting and so important the economy and passengers who rely on rail. After reading about the apprentice scheme, I quickly realised how varied the opportunities were.”
Apprentices will have the opportunity to develop new skills while working as part of a team on the vast network of rail, lineside access points, signals, electrified lines and telecommunications across Wales and Borders, and setting them up for the future.

- The three-year programme is designed to provide candidates with a mixture of practical hands-on experiences whilst enhancing their theory and industry knowledge. This approach will allow candidates to gain an all-round appreciation of engineering in the Rail industry supported with nationally recognised qualifications.
- This scheme gives candidates an externally recognised qualification that is accredited by Edexcel, City & Guilds and ILM, which reflects the quality of our training. Candidates can also work towards a range of engineering qualifications that will help in their future career.
