Six access points on the West Coast main line between Lancaster and Carlisle are being upgraded to improve maintenance and railway repairs.

Passengers at London Waterloo station, which handles almost 100 million journeys each year, are now benefitting from more up to date, real time travel advice as station staff have been issued with mobile technology to help them better guide people on their journeys.

• To encourage investment from the private sector and other organisations, Network Rail has implemented new initiatives to make it easier and more commercially attractive
• Sweeping reforms investors and builders will benefit from include; new service level commitments, customer satisfaction surveys, clarity about the risks involved, and revised standards to reduce both complexity and cost, and to encourage innovation
• Other changes include publishing a list of opportunities for third parties to invest in, recruiting business development teams, allowing other organisations to compete for work Network Rail would traditionally deliver, and implementing a national framework providing consistency for teams working by the railway

Network Rail has launched a public exhibition at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) showcasing the best footbridge designs that were submitted as entries to an international competition last year.

Passengers and residents in Lytham St Annes are being reminded of changes to rail services from this weekend as a result of bridge work in the town.

This National Apprenticeship Week (4-8 March), Network Rail Wales and Borders is calling for people to join its award-winning apprenticeship scheme, as it embarks on its £2bn five-year funding plan to improve journeys for passengers.
