A busy railway junction in London will be rebuilt this Christmas as part of an investment programme to improve punctuality on trains into Waterloo.

Network Rail has completed an £800,000 replacement of the footbridge at Westgate-on-Sea station with stepped access between the station’s two platforms over the tracks of the Chatham Main Line.

Passengers from three stations in West and East Sussex can now get on and off the full length of longer Southern trains thanks to platform extensions built by Network Rail and funded by the Department for Transport.

Passengers will again be able to travel on a section of the Heart of Wales line, which runs from Shrewsbury to Swansea, from November as Network Rail has set out the timescales for repairs to the line after two major incidents within a month.

Network Rail will shortly begin the first phase of work which will lead to the reinstatement of passenger services to Leven.

Reliability improvements to Clacton on Sea’s rail line are scheduled to take place from this weekend and at weekends throughout October which will result in fewer delays and cancellations for passengers.

Worn out track is planned to be renewed on the East Suffolk line to improve reliability and provide passengers with an improved journey experience.
