More than 300 volunteers from across the rail industry will be helping visitors travelling by train to Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games venues.

Network Rail engineers will carry out around £5m of delay-busting upgrades between Axminster and Pinhoe from Monday 19 to Friday 23 September.

Passengers using London Victoria station can look forward to easier journeys in future as Network Rail begins a £30m investment to reduce congestion on platforms and at ticket gates.

The East Coast Main Line has now reopened after teams carried out repairs to the railway in Sandy, Bedfordshire following significant damage caused by a fire which spread to the tracks.

Network Rail has announced the launch of a new taskforce led by independent experts to investigate and make recommendations on how the railway can develop its approach to resilience during hot weather following this week’s unprecedented heatwave.

• Coordinated industry contingency plan will see a very limited timetable available on 27 July, with around 20% of services running and some parts of the country with no rail services
• Special timetable for 27^th to be published on Saturday (23^rd), but it is certain that trains will start later and finish much earlier than usual, between 7.30am and 6.30pm
• Passengers asked to plan ahead, check before they travel, to expect disruption and only travel if necessary

Limited train services have started to run through Birmingham New Street with passengers being advised to check before they travel throughout today.

West Coast main line passengers are being urged to check National Rail Enquiries before they set off on their journey with no direct trains between London and Scotland.
