Passengers are being advised to check before they travel this bank holiday as further investment in the railway means some services and routes will be affected.

Passengers planning to travel to central London during the first May Bank Holiday from some parts of Kent and South East London are being encouraged to check before they travel as Network Rail continues its improvement work across the region.

Hundreds of thousands of passengers and freight users will experience long term benefits from almost £50m of investment in improving Britain’s rail network over the May Day bank holiday weekend. Over 95% of the network will be unaffected by this work programme.

Passengers planning to travel to London during the May Bank Holiday from Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk should check before they travel as Network Rail will be carrying out vital upgrades on the London to Norwich line.

The ghostly remains of a long-lost South London railway station – closed 100 years ago - have been uncovered by engineers constructing the Bermondsey Dive Under, as part of the Thameslink Programme.

Work to upgrade Moss Road and Fenwick Lane level crossings to the most modern standards starts this weekend. 

An awareness day will take place in York in a bid to educate more people on how to use level crossings safely and the dangers of misusing level crossings or taking risks.
