Network Rail has secured a budget of more than £2 billion to provide a safer and more reliable railway for passengers travelling on the south western rail network through Surrey and the surrounding areas.

A major signalling fault is affecting services on the South Western Main Line with South Western Railway advising passengers not to travel and to seek alternative arrangements.

Network Rail is advising passengers planning on travelling on the South Western Main Line this morning to check before they travel due to an issue with the signalling system between Surbiton and Woking. The fault may affect passengers travelling on the line into London Waterloo.

The Victorian railway bridges at Earlsfield station in Wandsworth have been given major facelifts to restore them to their former glory.

Network Rail will be travelling the equivalent of more than four times around the world on the south western rail network to combat leaves on the line, which act like black ice on roads and can cause train delays throughout the autumn months.

Budding engineers in south west London are being encouraged to apply for Network Rail’s Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme, which is now open for applications for the March 2019 intake.
