Network Rail has opened the doors to a new community information hub in Dawlish which will provide regular updates on how work to deliver a bigger sea wall is progressing.

Members of the public are invited to attend an open day at Alstone level crossing near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire on Thursday 6 June where they will be able to go behind the scenes and see how the level crossing works.

Network Rail has started work on a new bigger sea wall at Dawlish, in Devon, which will provide greater protection to the railway and town from rising sea levels and extreme weather for generations to come.

Residents living in Gloucester have been invited to a drop-in event to find out more about upcoming work to replace track at the city’s station as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan to provide a bigger, better, more reliable railway for passengers.

Passengers in Devon and Cornwall will notice something unusual on their commute this week as Network Rail and GWR have installed giant deck chairs at stations along the route to mark the introduction of new services this May, providing an extra 4,200 seats every weekday.

New figures from Network Rail revealed the number of near misses on the railway recorded across Wales and Borders was four times higher, compared to the previous year.

The UK’s biggest ever signalling upgrade is a step closer to completion as Network Rail carried out a significant stage of a six-year project to modernise signalling equipment in the Bristol and Bath area over the weekend (11-12 May). The introduction of the upgraded signalling system will allow more trains to run on the network in the future, helping to meet growing passenger demand.
