Three months on from the Llangennech freight train fire, remediation work to remove and replace 12,000 cubic metres of diesel contaminated soil around the site has begun.

Rail passengers across Bristol and the south west are being encouraged to check before they travel this Christmas and book their tickets in advance where possible.

Passengers will now benefit from smoother, quieter and more reliable train journeys following a £4million investment to renew the track between Bourne End and Marlow.

Works to improve the railway in West Cornwall begin this Saturday (5 December 2020), with amended train services and replacement buses in operation to keep people moving.

Network Rail work to renew the track between Bourne End and Marlow will see the railway close for a two-week period from this weekend.  

Network Rail has started work on the second section of the new, bigger sea wall at Dawlish, in Devon, which will provide greater protection to the railway and town from rising sea levels and extreme weather for generations to come.
