The first phase of work to upgrade Shrewsbury station has been completed as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan, to deliver a bigger and better railway for passengers.

• Passengers and shoppers invited to attend reindeer meet and greet and retailer giveaway at London Paddington station
• Network Rail will be investing £103m in improving and upgrading the rail network over the Christmas period
• Passengers travelling from the west are advised to plan ahead as upgrade work means Paddington will have no overground trains running between December 24 and 29 (inclusive).

Oxford residents will be safer and school children will benefit from a bigger playground thanks to a new footbridge installed over the railway by Network Rail.

Christmas partygoers across Wales and the borders are being advised to take extra care this festive season after Network Rail revealed a 25% increase in alcohol related incidents across the UK rail network in December, compared to the beginning of the year¹.

Bridge Street Road Bridge, an iconic bridge connecting Newport to its city centre has reopened to motorists today (from 12noon Thursday 1 December) following essential upgrade work.  

A new platform at Cardiff Central station designed to help ease congestion will be unveiled in the New Year-all part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan.

Works to upgrade the railway through Avonmouth are set to take place over four weekends in December and January as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan to provide a bigger, better, more reliable railway for passengers.
