Network Rail engineers are about to kickstart improvements to Portsmouth’s railway and the landmark Landport Viaduct.

Engineers will be working through the weekend to deliver another slice of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan, which will provide a bigger, better, and more reliable railway for passengers.

Rail users are being advised to check before they travel in the Dartford area as work to replace the track and points at Slade Green junction, up the line towards London, starts this weekend.

Work has started to clean and repair a well-known railway bridge in Chatham.

Network Rail has reopened the railway in the Salfords area (near Gatwick) and train services are back to normal, following successful repair works over weekend.

Works to prevent future landslips from the steep cutting at the southern entrance to Wadhurst Tunnel will last at least sixty years and provide more reliable journeys.

Network Rail will be closing two of the four lines in the Salfords area (near Gatwick) on three days this weekend to secure the railway embankment to prevent a landslip. A reduced train service will operate and passengers are being asked to check before travelling.

Passengers will benefit from better access to Liphook station in Hampshire after Network Rail replaces the footbridge.
