For decades, Channel swimmers have begun their epic journeys towards France from Shakespeare Beach in Dover. Now for the first time since Boxing Day 2015, when a massive storm damaged the sea wall behind the beach and the railway above it, swimmers can return to the shingle shore and enjoy one of Dover’s hidden gems after a new footbridge restored access to the beach.

A new and improved footbridge to take pedestrians safely over one of London’s busiest rail lines through Wandsworth Common was officially opened by students from nearby Northcote Lodge School on Tuesday 22^nd March.

Passengers planning to travel over the Easter bank holiday weekend are being advised to check before they travel while Network Rail invests £4 million in making the railway in south London more reliable.

Passengers planning to travel between Poole and Wareham over the Easter bank holiday weekend (14-17 April) , or the weekend of the 22 & 23 April, are being advised to check before they travel while Network Rail upgrades the railway’s sea defences in Holes Bay, Poole Harbour.

Network Rail is advising passengers in the Guildford area to ‘Check Before You Travel’ over two full weekends and two Sundays in April and May while it invests £800,000 to renew important sections of track to make journeys more reliable.

A month before the four-day Easter weekend, passengers are reminded to plan ahead and check before they travel as Network Rail carries out essential railway upgrades across the south east.

Plans to make sure the railway can continue to accommodate huge growth in passengers and freight in south east London and Kent have been published by Network Rail – and you can have your say.

Network Rail is inviting users of Vauxhall station to find out more about upcoming station upgrade work which will reduce congestion during peak periods and make it easier for passengers to board and alight trains.
