Network Rail has completed a programme of work between Edinburgh and Glasgow to secure the railway boundary and make it compliant with new safety standards ahead of the electrification of the line.

Network Rail will shortly begin a year-long £4m programme of work to replace and widen the bridge over the railway at Muirhead Road, Baillieston.

Bank Street in Alexandria will close for seven weeks from tonight (11.59pm Monday, August 28), while Network Rail engineers carry out work to repair and strengthen the railway bridge over the road.

Scotland’s politicians are getting the chance to see first-hand what it takes to keep the nation’s railway moving.

Network Rail is to mark the opening of Queensferry Crossing by offering rare public access to the Forth Bridge. The fundraising event on behalf of official charity partner Barnardo’s Scotland, will take place on September 23 and, due to high demand,  September 24, three weeks after the official opening of the Forth’s newest long-span bridge.

Murieston Road in Livingston will close for 12 weeks from September 4 while Network Rail engineers carry out work to repair and strengthen the railway bridge over the road.

Network Rail has today released new images showing how Edinburgh Waverley’s extended platforms will look once complete.

The public are being warned that overhead power cables on the main Edinburgh-Glasgow line will be live for testing from Saturday, September 2.
