Michael Matheson MSP today (Friday, March 27) joined Network Rail and Scottish Canals to re-open the Forth and Clyde canal at the Falkirk Wheel following a six-month closure.

• 44-day Winchburgh Tunnel closure to significantly disrupt travel on Glasgow-Edinburgh, via Falkirk High, line and result in diverted journeys on Dunblane/Stirling/Alloa-Edinburgh line

• Engineers will be working around-the-clock to relay track and install overhead power equipment for the electrification of the main Edinburgh-Glasgow route in 2016

• Information on alternative timetable and transport arrangements during the closure available from Thursday (March 19)

A week of celebrations are set to mark the 125th anniversary of the Forth Bridge this week, with over 500 bridge visits planned, over £160,000 raised for charity and a memorable flypast scheduled to mark the bridge’s special birthday.

The installation of almost 30 miles of rail on the new Borders Railway was officially completed today (Thursday, February 12) when Keith Brown, cabinet secretary for infrastructure, joined the project team to clip the final length of rail into place.

A minor derailment involving a freight train carrying industrial pipes occurred shortly before 08:00 today (Friday, February 6) at Georgemas Junction on the Far North line.

• Limited number of services being withdrawn from noon on Wednesday when worst of the winds will strike.

Due to the severe weather conditions forecast for Friday (January 9) a limited number of train services will be withdrawn from start of service tomorrow as a safety precaution.
