An updated app now allows residents and businesses to track the progress of roadworks across the country and better plan their journey, including upgrades being carried out by Network Rail. This is thanks to a renewed contract being announced this month between ELGIN, the developers of roadworks.org and Network Rail, which is now providing ELGIN with details of its maintenance and improvement work to help enhance the app.

BBC Tomorrow's World presenter and technology broadcaster and TeenTech founder Maggie Philbin has joined forces with Network Rail to help dispel myths about working in IT and encourage more girls to pursue a tech-related career.

Network Rail has announced a new managing director, network operations to take over from Robin Gisby who has decided to leave next year. Phil Hufton, currently chief operating officer of London Underground, will be joining in early 2015 and will have an orderly handover from Robin.
