Network Rail’s railway land is home to a variety of plant and animal species, few of which are as cute as these dormice. The railway company’s Southern region is working in partnership with ZSL (Zoological Society of London) to explore innovative ways to better understand and monitor what species are living along the railway.

Passengers travelling to and from London Paddington today (Friday, 8 December) are being urged to check their journeys before they leave, as a more limited service will be operating than usual.

•  More than 96% of the rail network will be open for ‘business as usual’ over the Christmas and New Year period
• While significant investment is being made in projects across the country, the £127m programme is a ‘lighter’ package of work than recent years
• Most journeys will be unaffected by engineering work but some lines are impacted, so passengers should plan ahead and check their journey details

• Journeys likely to be affected across the network with yellow and amber weather warnings issued by Met Office from early this evening (Wednesday 1 Nov) through until Friday 3 November.

• Passengers advised to check their journeys before travelling through this evening and over Thursday and Friday

• Network Rail staff and train operators working around the clock to keep passengers moving
