Christmas should be a time of year when everyone can enjoy themselves and have fun. But for some festive revellers it can spell danger, as new figures from Network Rail show that alcohol related incidents during the festive period across the Anglia rail network nearly doubled last year.

From Monday, 28 November, motorists in Oulton Broad North will wait for shorter periods of time at the level crossing on Bridge Road, when work is completed to move a critical signal on the railway.

Work is well under way to create a new footbridge at Trinity Lane level crossing, Waltham Cross, to provide a safer way of crossing the railway as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan.

The equivalent of 45,000 hours of railway upgrade work that has taken place between Shenfield and London Liverpool Street over eight weekends since September has come to an end, delivering significant benefits for passengers in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

Passengers travelling on the railway between Norwich and London and across to Cambridge are being asked to check before they travel, particularly at weekends as complex improvement works continue over Christmas and into 2017. This work will deliver vital railway upgrades for the Crossrail programme and remove long-standing heat related speed restrictions.

Suffolk residents are invited to an information event to find out more about major improvements to the railway line that runs between Ipswich to Felixstowe which includes building extra track and closing level crossings as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan.

Timelapse footage has captured the installation of a footbridge that connects the ticket office with the platforms at the new Cambridge North railway station, due to open in May 2017 as part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan.

Greater Anglia and Network Rail are taking action and investing in new equipment in an effort to minimise disruption to rail passengers caused by slippery rails during the Autumn.
