Network Rail has announced that Hough Lane road bridge in Wombwell will reopen for motorists on Thursday, 18 June, following vital work to upgrade it.

Rail passengers are reminded that from today (15 June) it is mandatory to wear a face covering on public transport in England, as Network Rail implements increased safety measures at major stations in the Western route, including London Paddington, Reading and Bristol Temple Meads.

Face coverings are a must for everyone travelling on public transport in England from today (Monday).

Network Rail is temporarily closing the footbridge over the railway line in Dawlish, Devon to continue its work to protect the vital railway which connects the south west with the rest of the country.  

New training facilities have opened in the West Midlands to train railway staff to keep the rail network running safely.

Network Rail is currently working between Tal y Cafn and Llanrwst to reopen the Conwy Valley line which, for the second time in recent years, has been literally washed away because of flooding. The line runs through fields in an area prone to flooding from the River Conwy.

Platform extensions have been installed at Cooksbridge, Lancing and Goring-By-Sea to support the £150m Gatwick Airport station upgrade, which will also improve accessibility and reduce overcrowding and delays for commuters and leisure travellers across the South East.
