Engineers are returning to Portsmouth on Saturday (15 January) to finish strengthening Landport Viaduct, one of the city’s most prominent Victorian railway structures.  

Network Rail has completed its vital improvement work on the railway bridge at Quarry Street, near Hamilton Central Station.

Passengers are being advised about work later this month to replace the lift giving access to platforms 13 and 14 at Manchester Piccadilly station.

A package of track, bridge and station works will take place from January to June 2022 to reduce delays and improve reliability of rail services for passengers travelling between London and Cambridge, Stansted and Kings Lynn. 

Network Rail is carrying out essential repair work on a wall in Kentish Town. 

Passenger and freight journeys will be more reliable following a programme of upgrades and maintenance across Anglia’s railway over Christmas and New Year.  

• Network Rail has completed a major track and signalling upgrade in Manchester as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade
• The improvements bring a more modern, reliable railway for passengers and allow more trains to run in the future
• Further work is planned every Sunday between 9 January and 6 February – passengers advised to plan ahead
