Work to provide a better railway across the north of England will continue this Christmas – but will mean changes to train services from the end of October while the benefits are delivered.

Network Rail and Butterfly Conservation have joined forces in the Highlands to create new habitat for one of the UK’s rarest moths.

The ScotRail Alliance today published details on how they will improve train service performance.

• The latest stage in improvements to the railway in the Bromsgrove area
• Work will allow line between Bromsgrove and Birmingham to be electrified
• Upgraded signalling will help make services to and from the town more reliable
• To allow the work to be completed the line will be closed for 12 days
• Buses will replace trains serving Bromsgrove station
• Trains between Birmingham, Hereford, south Wales and the South West will be subject to an amended timetable

Station Road bridge in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire will reopen tomorrow evening after Network Rail has completed the majority of work to repair and upgrade it.

Greater Anglia and Network Rail are taking action and investing in new equipment in an effort to minimise disruption to rail passengers caused by slippery rails during the Autumn.

Network Rail and Great Western Railway (GWR) hosted the second in a series of alliance roadshow events at Reading station on Friday, 14 October, giving passengers the chance to find out more about the ways in which the two organisations are working together to improve rail services for passengers.

A new railway junction which will uncork a major bottleneck on the approach to one of London’s busiest stations, allowing more frequent and more reliable train services across large parts of the south east, has moved a step closer to completion this week as the first new tracks were laid.
