Passengers travelling into London Waterloo will benefit from more reliable journeys as a result of Network Rail’s Easter investment, part of Network Rail’s £40billion Railway Upgrade Plan.

Network Rail and Great Western Railway (GWR) thanked passengers and lineside neighbours today for their patience following the completion, on time, of the first stage of work to pave the way for a bigger, better, more reliable railway for passengers in the south west and Thames Valley.

In spite of the arrival of Storm Katie this weekend, work to upgrade the railway in Essex this Easter was completed, meaning that passengers’ journeys on the line from Norwich to London will be more reliable.

The Bedford – Sandy – Cambridge corridor is today announced as the preferred option for the Central Section of East West Rail.

Despite Storm Katie doing her best to disrupt the long weekend, Network Rail's orange army completed a record-breaking 450 engineering projects planned for the Easter bank holiday on time.

Passengers are today (29 March) benefiting from a better railway through the Stafford area and can look forward to improved services in future after a new section of track and a key flyover opened to trains at Norton Bridge.
