Network Rail has today announced plans to enhance safety at Cornton by installing an upgraded full-barrier level crossing system.

Network Rail will carry out preparation work on Ford End Road bridge in Bedford ahead of it being upgraded as part of the Midland Main Line improvement programme. 

Ashton-under-Lyne station is now closed until Sunday 31 July while work takes place to provide better journeys between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge.

Engineers will be working around-the-clock to deliver a multi-million pound programme of upgrade and refurbishment projects along the route from Saturday, July 15, to Sunday, July 23.

Network Rail has thanked residents and commuters for their patience after successful improvement work was carried out to Onibury level crossing between Leominster and Shrewsbury.

Rail passengers travelling between Norwich and Ely are advised to check before they travel today (Friday 7 July) after signalling equipment was damaged by lightning.

Villagers from Chartham, near Canterbury, are able to use their main road again after Network Rail fitted new crossing gates this week.
