£2.7 million new railway bridge in Portsmouth to improve reliability for train passengers
- Life-expired Burnaby Road railway bridge in Portsmouth to be replaced between Monday 12 February and Friday 16 February 2018.
- More than 50 Network Rail engineers and track staff will work around the clock to install
- Rail replacement buses in operation every 10 minutes between Portsmouth Harbour and Portsmouth and Southsea, with diversion routes for motorists and pedestrians
- New crossing, made from British steel, to replace the old bridge over the half-term break
- Will retain original colours of the old Victorian bridge, reflecting the famous Portsmouth crest

New bridge in Tottenham marks the beginning of restoring a line lost during the Beeching era
As part of Network Rail’s £170m Lee Valley Rail programme, disused land is being used to reinstate a third track between Stratford and Angel Road stations which was lost during the Beeching cuts of the 1960s. Video footage shows the installation of a new railway bridge in Tottenham which will once again carry a third track over the River Lea Navigation. Due to be complete in 2019, the project will enable two extra trains per hour*, unlocking sites for housing development and economic growth in the boroughs of Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forrest.

Last-minute railway station Christmas shopping brings 9% retail sales growth
- With shoppers turning to stations for last-minute gifts, Network Rail reports 9% retail sales growth across its managed stations over the festive period
- Paddington, Euston and King’s Cross performed best, with five stations recording double-digit sales growth
- 31% of total station users – around 33 million people – visited a station retailer between 18 November and 23 December

London Overground’s Gospel Oak to Barking line to re-open as electrification of the line nears completion

- The new electrified line will be fully tested ahead of new state-of -the-art trains being introduced in spring 2018
