Network Rail has awarded the contract to build Soham’s new railway station to J Murphy and Sons Ltd. 

Network Rail and train operators on the East Coast Main Line are urging passengers not to travel to London King’s Cross on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September 2020, while vital work takes place in and around the station as part of the East Coast Upgrade, which will improve journeys for passengers. 

Major repair and refurbishment work has been completed at Hurst Green station to upgrade and improve the platforms for passengers.

Network Rail today warned people to take great care when using levels crossings on the Marston and Abbey Vale lines.

Passengers using the Heart of Wales line are encouraged to check before they travel as the railway between Shrewsbury and Llandrindod Wells has been closed owing to extensive damage caused by extreme rainfall in mid-Wales on 12 and 13 August.

Network Rail’s chief executive Andrew Haines has vowed to understand the cause and put immediate additional safety measures in place following yesterday’s derailment near Stonehaven in which three people died and six were injured. 

Andrew Haines, Network Rail’s chief executive, has arrived at the site of yesterday’s train derailment. As he arrived, Andrew said:

Network Rail has completed construction of a new footbridge and lifts between the station platforms along with the installation of platform edge tactile paving and upgrades to the station power supply.
