The work to deliver vital improvements for passengers across Somerset and Dorset has successfully passed the half-way point as Network Rail engineers continue to work around the clock to repair and upgrade the railway following last year’s landslip.

Network Rail has announced a huge package of improvement work across the region’s rail network today (Tuesday 16 June) to improve reliability of train services for passengers.

Network Rail has submitted plans to Teignbridge District Council for the remainder of the new £80m Dawlish sea wall which will help protect the vital rail artery to the south west from rising sea levels and extreme weather for the next 100 years.

Network Rail is urging passengers travelling between Scunthorpe and Doncaster to check before they travel as essential repair work following a landslip begins tomorrow.

• No trains in or out of London King’s Cross on Saturday, 20 and Sunday, 21 June so new overhead line equipment can be installed.
• Project is part of £1.2billion upgrade which will deliver more trains, thousands of extra seats and more reliable journeys between London, the north, and Scotland.
• Under current COVID-19 guidance, journeys should only be made if they are necessary, and those needing to travel should avoid using public transport wherever possible. It is now mandatory to wear a face covering when using public transport.

Passengers at Euston station are benefiting from better toilet facilities following an eight-week, £110,000 renovation programme.

Network Rail has announced that Hough Lane road bridge in Wombwell will reopen for motorists on Thursday, 18 June, following vital work to upgrade it.
