On Thursday 23 March, three years after the first Covid-19 lockdown, the rail industry came together to hold a memorial day to celebrate the vital role played by its people during the pandemic, while also remembering those from the industry who lost their lives to the virus.

Network Rail is piloting a new way to keep people who live next to the railways in parts of Northamptonshire and Leicestershire better informed about upcoming work that might affect them.

*UPDATED VIDEO* The Transpennine Route Upgrade is celebrating the halfway mark at Stalybridge, as great progress is made to bring passengers one step closer to fully electrified trains. 

Wistow Road in Newton Harcourt is closing today (24 March 2023) from the junction with Kibworth Road. People are being asked to follow the signposted diversions for Station Road. 

Passengers are reminded to plan ahead and check their journeys as vital upgrades are completed on the railway in Network Rail’s Sussex route this Easter.

Engineers are preparing for a package of works later in the spring that will help drive down delays on the lines that run between Norwich - Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Sheringham.

A £1.5 million programme to strengthen a railway bridge in Kempston Hardwick, Bedfordshire (pictured) will get under way this month to improve reliability for passengers. Over the next five months, Network Rail engineers will repair and strengthen the steel girders, bridge deck and improve drainage and guttering on the structure which carries the Midland Main Line over the B530 Ampthill Road.

Network Rail is pleased to report that plans to make the station accessible are moving forward with a completion date scheduled for the first half of 2024.
