Passengers are being urged to check before they travel between South Wales and Shropshire on three weekends in September when Network Rail will be carrying out essential engineering work.

Network Rail is investing £4.5 million to safeguard the Cumbrian coast line against climate change by upgrading Eskmeals viaduct.

Scotland’s Railway will significantly reduce its greenhouse gas emissions across the network over the next five years.

Passengers will be able to travel by rail during the August bank holiday to enjoy the best of what Anglia has to offer as majority of the rail network across the region will be open.

Drivers in the north of Glasgow are being advised of temporary lane closures to enable bridge works from next week.

Essential railway engineering work starts in the Bristol and South Gloucestershire areas on Saturday 17 August and runs until the early hours of Saturday 24 August.

Throughout August, Network Rail engineers will deploy industrial-sized excavators on the West Coast main line to suck up track foundation stones - or ballast - to allow for vital track upgrades which will improve journeys for passengers and freight.

• The Island Line will close from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin between Friday 6 September and Sunday 6 October for vital maintenance
• Ryde Pier will close from Friday 6 September 2024 until May 2025 while life extension work continues
• One train every 30 minutes will operate between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin from Monday 7 October to early May 2025
• Rail replacement bus services will operate during both closures
