- The improvements bring a more modern, reliable railway for passengers and allow more trains to run in the future
- Further work is planned every Sunday between 9 January and 6 February – passengers advised to plan ahead

No trains between London Victoria and East Croydon this weekend (Saturday 16 to Sunday 17 October) due to important railway upgrades
The project to modernise 1980s track and signalling on lines into London Victoria station will improve reliability and help even more passenger and freight trains arrive on time.

The £2.6m project to restore Balham station to its former glory has been completed, giving the iconic station a face-lift, fit for the 21st century
Network Rail have invested £2.6m to reduce the gap between trains and platforms at Balham station, improving safety and reducing delays. Platforms have also been refurbished with new surfaces, drainage and platform canopies repaired and repainted.

Rail engineering upgrades continue in Manchester
- Trackside piling work due to begin in April in Collyhurst and Miles Platting
- Work to be carried out safely overnight while trains are not running
- The work is part of early preparations to eventually electrify and re-signal the railway and renew track between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge, via Ashton
- The project is part of the wider Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) that will improve train capacity and reliability from Manchester to York, via Huddersfield and Leeds

Passengers and people who live by the railway will be able to enjoy uninterrupted internet and mobile phone reception on the Brighton Mainline
