More trains, more seats and quicker journeys as rail industry launches December 2025 timetable
The rail industry has launched the biggest timetable change on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) in more than a decade today (Sunday 14 December), as part of a wider set of timetable changes across the network.

Strike day timetable published for Saturday as passengers reminded to only travel by train if absolutely necessary
- With the RMT, Aslef and TSSA coordinating strike action on Saturday 1 October, only around 11% of services will operate, and there will be no trains at all across significant parts of the country
- Trains that do run will start later and finish much earlier than usual, so passengers are asked to only travel by rail if absolutely necessary. Those who must travel should expect disruption, plan ahead and check when their last train will depart
- Train drivers at 14 operators are also walking out on Wednesday 5 October, meaning disruption for passengers on those routes
- The RMT is then staging another walkout on Saturday 8 October
- Timetable for the Aslef strike on 5 October will be published on National Rail Enquiries later this week, while the timetable for Saturday 8 October will be published early next week

Birmingham railway revellers’ advice ahead of bank holiday weekend
Bank holiday revellers are being urged to plan ahead if travelling by train as a host of huge events across the weekend means the railway will be extra busy.
Passengers reminded to plan journeys in advance and only travel by train if absolutely necessary on 18 and 20 August
- Coordinated industry contingency plan will see around 20% of services running and some parts of the country with no rail services
- Special timetables for 18 and 20 August have now been published on National Rail Enquiries, with trains starting later and finishing much earlier than usual, between 7.30am and 6.30pm
- Passengers are asked to plan ahead, check before they travel, to expect disruption and to only travel by rail if absolutely necessary
Only ‘absolutely necessary’ rail travel advised on strike days this week
- Rail passengers should only travel if ‘absolutely necessary’ on 18 & 20 August
- Strike action will see 20% of the usual number of trains running – some routes will have none
- Those running will start later from 7:30am and finish earlier by 6.30pm

Birmingham New Street closed this Saturday during train drivers’ strike
