Network Rail engineers are about to kickstart improvements to Portsmouth’s railway and the landmark Landport Viaduct.

Passengers will benefit from better access to Liphook station in Hampshire after Network Rail replaces the footbridge.

Train services restarted from 6 January on the line between Guildford, Aldershot and Wokingham, following a 40 metre landslip near the small village of Wanborough over the Christmas period.

Network Rail staff worked tirelessly between Christmas and the New Year to improve the railway for passengers on a series of projects across London, Surrey, Hampshire and Wiltshire.

Engineers are working round the clock to repair a landslip in Surrey, which has shut the railway between Guildford, Aldershot and Wokingham near the hamlet of Wanborough.

Network Rail staff will shortly begin a package of improvements for passengers in South West London and Hampshire between Christmas and New Year to maintain and upgrade the railway, and improve reliability for those essential workers still relying on the rail network every day. 

Twelve companies have been awarded contracts to deliver buildings and civils work across Network Rail’s Southern region, which spans Kent, Sussex and the South of England.
