On the first anniversary of the notorious storms at Dawlish, time-lapse photography shows the extensive work undertaken by Network Rail’s ‘orange army’ over the last year to restore the south west’s rail connection and make the area more resilient for the future.

The footbridge over the railway at Templars Firs reopened yesterday, Monday 2 February, after work to prepare it for electrification was completed on time.

Pedestrians using the footpath over the railway line at Highfield Lane in Maidenhead will notice that it is significantly brighter from today following the installation of a mural designed by pupils from Cox Green School.

Network Rail is to upgrade and improve safety at Ashford Bowdler level crossing. The upgrade, which will see the current half barriers replaced by full barriers, is part of a £75 million project to modernise the railway between Newport and Shrewsbury, with new signalling technology installed along the route.

Local residents and other users of Pinhoe level crossing will be learning to stay safe on the railway during a campaign organised by Network Rail and British Transport Police (BTP).

Passengers will benefit from a better travelling experience after Network Rail announced today that work will soon begin to increase accessibility at Severn Tunnel Junction station by installing a new footbridge.

In December last year, engineers from Network Rail’s ‘orange army’ began the process of removing the old Royal Mail mail conveyor from Bristol Temple Meads station, culminating in the structure being lifted out on Christmas Day. This time-lapse photography shows the scale of the project and level of work involved.

Residents are being invited to a drop-in session to find out more about a project to replace an ageing railway bridge in the Vale of Glamorgan with a larger and improved structure, which will help improve traffic flow.
