Passengers will benefit from a better travelling experience after Network Rail announced today that work will soon begin to increase accessibility at Severn Tunnel Junction station by installing a new footbridge.

In December last year, engineers from Network Rail’s ‘orange army’ began the process of removing the old Royal Mail mail conveyor from Bristol Temple Meads station, culminating in the structure being lifted out on Christmas Day. Residents are being invited to a drop-in session to find out more about a project to replace an ageing railway bridge in the Vale of Glamorgan with a larger and improved structure, which will help improve traffic flow.

Network Rail engineers worked through the Christmas break to rebuild an ageing bridge as part of work to provide a modern, bigger and better railway.

Passengers are being urged to check for changes to their journey if they are planning to travel between Hereford and Shrewsbury stations over Christmas. This section of the line is being closed for improvement works as Network Rail invests in the railway to deliver better services.

The bridge over the railway at School Hill Road in Brinkworth reopened to the public yesterday, Tuesday 16 December, after work to prepare it for electrification was completed on time.

Network Rail is hoping that the reopening of a bridge near to the centre of Swindon will help ease traffic congestion over the festive period.

Thousands of passengers and freight users are set to benefit from one of the biggest Christmas and New Year investment programmes carried out on the Western route over recent years.
