The railway between the Severn Tunnel and Cardiff has reopened and train services between Bristol, Newport and Gloucester have resumed as normal, following the successful completion of a major phase of South Wales Mainline modernisation work.

This afternoon (Tuesday 16 April) Teignbridge District Council approved Network Rail’s plans to deliver a new sea wall at Dawlish that will provide increased protection from extreme weather and rising sea levels for generations to come.

The name of a Class 97 locomotive was unveiled at a ceremony hosted by Network Rail at Minffordd railway station on Friday 12 April.

A new pedestrian and cycle route will open in Reading later this month after two railway bridges were upgraded to create more space for a new cycle path and footpath.

Network Rail has started work to repair the extensive damage to the Conwy Valley line this week. The line, which runs between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestniog, was closed on 16 March due significant flooding, caused by Storm Gareth.
