Network Rail engineers will begin demolishing Mardy Road bridge in Cardiff this weekend as part of the Railway Upgrade Plan to improve journeys for passengers.

Specialist ‘railhead treatment’ trains are out in force across the railway in Wales and the Borders, as Network Rail’s and Arriva Trains Wales’ joint autumn plan steps up a gear, with teams of highly trained engineers ready to work 24/7 to help keep rail passengers moving this autumn.

Network Rail is carrying out improvement work to the River Usk Viaduct in Newport as part of the Railway Upgrade Plan which will help accommodate growing passenger numbers.

Network Rail is teaming up with Arriva Trains Wales, British Transport Police, and other partners to remind the public to stay safe on and around the railway in Wales and the borders.

Tunnel Terrace footbridge in Newport will temporarily close to pedestrians this weekend – from Sunday, 24 September 2017 until early 2018 – while Network Rail carries out modernisation work as part of its Railway Upgrade Plan to improve journeys for passengers.

Network Rail is looking for 11 new apprentices for its award-winning engineering apprenticeship scheme to start in March next year.

Network Rail and Arriva Trains Wales have joined forces with Welsh Government and passenger representatives to create a new board bringing track and train closer together and ensuring there is one voice to represent customers in Wales and the borders. The board will work together to drive improvements and hold the rail industry to account.

Rogiet Road bridge reopened to motorists this week as work continues to prepare the railway from London to Cardiff for brand new bi-mode Intercity Express Trains.
