Over a nine-day line closure, Network Rail engineers battled Storm Eunice and Storm Franklin to deliver a £15 million investment across 30 worksites to improve journeys for Brighton Main Line passengers.

A host of senior railway figures gathered at the classic country junction station of Eridge, East Sussex, today (Wednesday, 16 February) to celebrate the opening of accessibility improvements that mark the final step in a transformation of the location.

The overhaul of Gatwick Airport station has marked another major milestone as over the weekend (Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 February) the final three of eight new escalators were lifted into place at the station.

The first image of a major facelift for Crawley station has been released and building work is underway on the first phase of a project that will give visitors to the town a much brighter welcome.

While families are unwrapping presents Network Rail engineers will be wrapping up warm and working through the entire festive period to bring greater reliability to passengers on the busy London Victoria to East Croydon route.

This weekend Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November and over Christmas, from Saturday 25 December to Monday 3 January 2022, no trains will run between East Croydon and London Victoria. Most Southern trains will be diverted to London Bridge.

Network Rail is managing and delivering station accessibility enhancements as part of the Department for Transport’s Access for All programme. Work will begin on the 1 November 2021 with completion in Autumn 2022.

Passengers travelling between Three Bridges and Gatwick Airport are advised to check before they travel this weekend as Network Rail continues work on a major upgrade of the Brighton Main Line.
