The work to improve station car parks across the South has reached half-way as part of Network Rail and South Western Railway’s commitment to improve facilities for passengers.

Network Rail is trialling new battery-powered hedge trimmers and strimmers that are quieter, much lighter and friendlier to the environment than their petrol-powered counterparts.

Historic railway bridges have been transformed into stunning pieces of art thanks to Network Rail’s unique partnership with community groups, schools, and artists.

Vital work to remove and reconstruct a footbridge at Eridge station in East Sussex took place over the weekend. The work was needed due to the age and condition of the old structure, in order to protect the safety of those using the bridge and the trains operating below.

Network Rail has completed extensive modification and refurbishment to the network at the site of Newhaven Marine Station, developing rail freight capacity and supporting a low-carbon economy by removing the need for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) on local roads.

Improvements for passengers who use Peckham Rye station have moved a step closer this week with Network Rail receiving £1m from the Department for Transport to develop designs for a more accessible station with more capacity and better facilities for passengers.
