Railway customers in parts of South West London are advised to check before travelling this summer as Network Rail starts an upgrade of the railway around Twickenham to improve reliability.

Trains in Wiltshire are now running on top of old bottles, food packaging and other unwanted plastics, with the introduction of the first composite railway sleepers on Network Rail’s main line tracks.

For several weeks this winter, railway neighbours at Bobbing, near Sittingbourne, Kent, were living near a major construction project as Network Rail and suppliers Balfour Beatty, Seva and others got to grips with a landslip on the line to London.

Passengers travelling on the south London lines into London Victoria can look forward to more reliable journeys after Network Rail delivered a bumper programme of upgrades over May and June. 

Network Rail engineers will be working on improving the railway near Weybridge over a long weekend in early August, keeping disruption to a minimum and increasing reliability for passengers.

Passengers who travel between Orpington and Lewisham are being asked to plan ahead as essential improvement work is carried out in the Grove Park area over five weekends in late June and through July.  There will also be replacement buses between Grove Park and Bromley North over the same weekends

Fans of steam engines are being urged to enjoy them from a safe distance when they travel across Hampshire, Surrey, south west London and Berkshire this summer.

Work at Eridge station in East Sussex is underway to provide step-free platform access making the station much easier to use for Southern Rail passengers with mobility issues, older people and parents with young children.
