A new platform surface has reduced the step for passengers and increased safety at one of London’s busiest – and most historic - stations.

Staff working on the £6.5bn Thameslink Programme have lent a helping hand to create a new community garden in the Bankside area near London Bridge station.

A three-day closure of Cannon Street, Charing Cross, Waterloo East and part of London Bridge came to end at 4am this morning (Tuesday) after a long weekend of major improvement work.

Vital upgrades to the railway will be carried this Bank Holiday weekend in east London, as engineers continue to prepare the line between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield for future Crossrail services.

Network Rail is continuing its investment programme in the South East this weekend with a series of projects in South London, Kent, and Sussex.

Network Rail will be carrying out essential work to the railway in the Bedford area on Saturday May 23 and Sunday May 24 to prepare for faster and more reliable journeys. 
 

Work to electrify the Midland Main Line between Bedford and Sheffield has entered its next phase as work on the track is now underway. 

Network Rail is urging all pedestrians, motorists and cyclists using level crossings between Marlow and Bourne End of the need to take care at level crossings, as a new timetable comes into effect on 17 and 18 May.
