Network Rail is carrying out emergency works at Wivelsfield, near Haywards Heath, to strengthen an embankment and prevent a potential landslip.

Passengers using the Brighton Main Line this morning between Brighton and Gatwick are being urged not to travel as flooding on the railway is severely impacting services.

The vast majority of the rail network in Sussex will be open for business as usual this Christmas and New Year as more improvement work is targeted at times that have less impact on passengers.

Sussex passengers are seeing the benefits of a major upgrade programme this week as Network Rail finished replacing the signalling system on the route from Lewes to Seaford, via Newhaven, replacing a system controlled from three signal boxes dating back to 1879.

Network Rail engineers in Sussex will be working around the clock this week to finish upgrading the line between Lewes and Seaford with modern, more reliable signalling technology to reduce delays for passengers.

Ashford and Kent rail passengers are advised to check before they travel this weekend, 23-24 November and between 26 – 29 December, as Network Rail works to improve the railway between Ashford International and Canterbury West stations.  

Local residents and rail passengers are invited to four public drop-in events during November and December to hear about Network Rail’s major 9-day closure of the Bexleyheath line from Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 February 2020.

Passengers on the Hastings line are advised to check before they travel this weekend following the announcement of emergency engineering works scheduled for this Sunday.
