After days of hard work by Network Rail engineers in difficult conditions, a limited train service will be able to run to Brighton through the flooded Patcham tunnel area tonight (Monday) with a full Brighton Main Line service resuming tomorrow.

Network Rail is working with the Environment Agency to closely monitor rising ground water levels in Patcham area outside Brighton, where the Brighton Main Line runs through a tunnel in the South Downs.

Engineers have started to build an access road to a remote section of railway at Whatlington Viaduct, near Battle in Sussex, in order to begin work repairing the damage caused by a serious landslip.

Network Rail’s National Delivery Service (NDS) has signed a contract with five suppliers to provide haulage for the company’s fleet of engineering trains in control period 5 (2014-2019).
