Network Rail engineers have successfully replaced a crucial railway junction in Sussex over the first of four weekends of improvement work to the railway between London and Brighton.

A multi-million pound investment in the one of the country’s busiest rail lines is planned for this autumn, bringing new track, new signalling, better drainage and even a new footbridge.

A temporary footbridge has been built at Ham Street station following an incident with a young person on the footpath crossing. Video footage from the stations also shows that station users including schoolchildren regularly cross the tracks without looking or listening.

Network Rail opened two new platforms at London Bridge station this morning (Monday) as a nine-day part closure of the railway was successfully completed on time.

Local residents and other users of Furze Platt level crossing will be learning to stay safe on the railway during a campaign organised by Network Rail and British Transport Police (BTP).
