Rail minister Paul Maynard joined Network Rail, Rochdale Borough Council and Northern at Rochdale station today (Thursday 8 December) to celebrate the completion of the first phase of upgrades on the Calder Valley line that runs between Manchester Victoria and Leeds via Bradford.

More than a quarter of a million people used Birmingham New Street on Saturday (26 November), the highest ever number to have used the station in 24 hours.

Passengers are being advised to plan their journeys in advance as the next phase of the major work to upgrade the line between Preston and Blackpool gets under way in January.
